About Cheek Reduction Procedure:

Most cheek reduction procedures involve an incision inside the mouth, so there usually is no skin incision. The buccal fat pads will be removed from both sides, then the surgeon will close the incisions.

In some case, patients would benefit from cheek augmentation with cheek implants instead of buccal fat removal or they may actually need the combinations.

An important fact to consider is that the fat decrease with age. If your parents have slender faces, your fat may be considered "baby fat". Buccal fat removal in patient at a very young age whose natural tendency will be too slender with age may cause the person to appear drawn and gaunt as they approaches late twenties or early thirties.

Good candidates are:

Men and women, who bothered by round, chubby cheeks. Your surgeon may also recommend nose surgery, cheeks augmentation and/or neck and chin liposuction in order to achieve the facial balance and proportion.

During your consultation:

The success and safety of your cheek surgery depends very much on your thorough discussion with your consultation. Be prepared to ask and discuss about your expectations, desired outcome, health history and lifestyle.

.....Be prepared to discuss:

  • Previous health history, drug allergies and previous medical treatments
  • Use of current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs
  • Previous surgeries

.....Your surgeon may:

  • Evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors
  • Examine and measure your face
  • Take photographs for your medical record
  • Discuss your options and recommend a course of reshaping your cheek
  • Discuss likely outcomes of a cheek surgery and any risks or potential complications
  • Discuss the type of anesthesia that will be used

Prepare for the surgery:

.....Prior to surgery, you may be asked to:

  • Get lab testing or a medical evaluation
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
  • Stop smoking well in advance of surgery
  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding

.....Special instructions you receive will cover:

  • What to do on the night before and the morning of surgery
  • The use of anesthesia during your cheek surgery
  • Post-operative care and follow-up

You’ll need help : If your cheek surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery.

Possible Risks and Complications:

Your plastic surgeon and/or staff will explain in detail the risks associated with surgery. You will be asked to sign consent forms to ensure that you fully understand the procedure you will undergo and any risks or potential complications.

Risks and risk rates vary from patient to patient depending on a range of factors. The risks listed below are possible risks associated with this type of surgery and are mentioned regardless of how remote the possibility

.....Possible risks of cheek reduction include:

  • Infection requiring antibiotics and in some cases hospitalization
  • Numbness and other changes in skin sensation
  • Permanent discoloration
  • Anesthesia risks
  • Possibility of revisional surgery

Surgery: time required 1hour

My Recovery:

The results of cheek reduction surgery will appear gradually as swelling and bruising subside to reveal a more chiseled and hollowed look

.....Cheek Reduction Recovery time :

Limited chewing, talking and smiling: several days after the surgery
Liquid or soft diet: may be required for several days after the surgery
Bruising gone: 1 – 2 weeks
Back to work: 1 – 2 weeks
Final result will gradually appear within 4 months

Following your physician’s instruction is key to the success of your surgery. It is important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during the time of healing.
